Projekte III: Hören bei Fischen

Together with Dr. Tanja Schulz-Mirbach, Dr. Isabelle Maiditsch and scientists from the Tomcat beamline at the PSI in Villigen (Switzerland), we are investigating the biomechanics of hearing in bony fish (comparative study on selected representatives of the Cypriniformes and Siluriformes).

Tomograms reveal the three-dimensional morphology of the structures involved (swimming bladder, Weber's ossicles, otolithic end organs), high-speed radiographs show the deflection of the structures in the sound field in selected planes (@ 100 - 1750 Hz), and 4D-tomography finally captures the complex three-dimensional movements of the structures involved in hearing within the intact fish and for the quantitative evaluation.
